Level 3 Award in Sake

In Level 3, students will dive in deeper into detailed understanding of the sake production methods that effect the style, quality and price of sake. Students will also taste a wide range of rare Japanese sakes and build complex tasting skills. Upon completion of the program, successful students will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Successfully completed WSET Level 1 Award in Sake.

STUDY FORMAT

WSET Level 3 Award in Sake consists of 42 hours of training by a WSET® certified educator. The course lasts five sessions with weekly classes from 9 am to 5 pm, including a lunch break, study time and the exam. Sessions are limited to 12 students.

ASSESMENT

The examination takes place during the last session of the course. It comprises two parts and lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes in total. Students must pass both parts of the examination paper in order to achieve the Level 3 Award in Sake:

  • A theory paper of 50 multiple-choice questions and three short answer questions
  • A tasting paper consisting of a blind tasting of two sakes

Both parts of the examination require a minimum mark of 55% to pass.
